Standing with its back to Hebden Water in the centre of town, this cheerful 17th century building is known by the 'locals' as 'Bottom Shoulder' to distinguish it from a long-defunct pub of the same name at Blackshaw Head. Created from what was once a row of three cottages, it now has a modern and simple semi-open plan interior, although some of the old woodwork, iron fireplaces and stone-flagged floors remain. You enter the pub through the first pair of rooms, with a welcoming bar ahead of you to the left. Further on, there's a partly partitioned and pleasant area for eating, made up of two old rooms, with fitted seating, tables and chairs, and exposed beams and boards on the ceilings. This pub is popular in summer with tourists as well as 'locals', especially on the patio which faces out onto St George's Square; an ideal spot to enjoy a quiet drink and watch passers-by.
