The pub today shows its railway connections with a railway theme throughout. There is mainly one large room segregated into smaller areas but there is snug to the right just after the front door. The interior is modern but decorated respecting the local heritage. Food is the main business with some of the tables laid for dining but the drinker is also welcome.

Outside, the pub has a covered smoking area, a beer garden with children's play area near a bowling green which is home to the Railway Bowling Club. It's a grade II listed building. The plan to start running a beer festival.

The pub is across Biddulph Road from the station, on the east side of the railway and was once linked by level crossing to its near neighbour, the Queen's Head, on the west side. In the mid-1800s, both pubs were run by the same licensee who changed the name from the Navigation to the Railway on opening of the Stoke-Macclesfield Railway. The pub was once owned by Joules of Stone, became a Bass Tavern in the 1960s and was taken over by Punch in 2000. Located by bridge 75 on the Macclesfield canal on the side opposite the tow-path.
