This traditional village pub reopened in October 2024 after the long-serving landlord retired. Under the new landlady some small sympathetic renovations have been undertaken. Dogs are very welcome and a special menu for them is planned. Seating is split into four interconnecting areas and the two real fires provide a cosy atmosphere in winter. Currently there are three small televisions, a dart board and in the future they plan to have other pub games and monthly live music entertainment. The garden behind the pub provides outside seating and there is a small car park to the side with other parking available nearby in the village. The bus that serves the village (352) stops about a 10 minute walk away. To keep up to date with the small changes that are still ongoing, updates including food availability will on their placed on their Facebook page.

The Charter Market Quarter has many historical links. One of the only free-standing medieval civic clock towers, the site of the First Battle of St. Albans in 1455, during the Wars of the Roses. Allegedly the Boot Inn played host to soldiers fighting in the battle. There used to be 23 pubs around the Market area!
