This historic free house reopened in 2024 having been purchased by two local residents. It houses both a public and a saloon bar that have wooden beams and wood burning fires, plus there is an area containing a dart board. Dogs and children are welcome and enjoy the two gardens that are located at the front roadside and behind the pub. For entertainment there are two televisions showing sporting events, a monthly quiz night, a monthly open mic night, regular live music, and happy hours that occur on most days. Following modifications to the kitchen they plan to be serving food by November 2024. It is advisable to check the availability of food, opening times etc and regular updates will posted on their Instagram account. For special events there will be a marquee in the rear garden.

The Charter Market Quarter has many historical links. One of the only free-standing medieval civic clock towers, the site of the First Battle of St. Albans in 1455, during the Wars of the Roses. Allegedly the Boot Inn played host to soldiers fighting in the battle. There used to be 23 pubs around the Market area!
