Since being extensively refurbished and converted to cask in 2011, the White Bear has featured in the Good Beer Guide on a regular basis. Parts of the building date from 1625 and, despite various alterations over the years, the pub retains the character of an older building. It was the White Bear Commercial Hotel in the early part of 20th century and has remained a licensed premises since then. Friendly and welcoming local pub with three distinct drinking areas, a separate restaurant, and an outdoor drinking area. A solid fuel stove heats the main bar area. Information on regional events is provided via a stand on the bar, local historical information and beer-related information is provided by reference books, and there are a selection of books and board games available.

CAMRA's LocAle scheme is supported through the regular stocking of beers from a number of local breweries. Four hand pumps serve a range of real ales on a rotational basis with one dark ale, a traditional bitter, a golden ale, and an IPA usually available. Food is served in both the restaurant and bar areas.

Located on the main shopping street in Middlewich, a short walk from the Trent and Mersey canal. Dogs are welcome in the bar areas and in the garden.
