The pub is a thatched building that was originally the school that Robert Burns attended. It was here that he met his first love Peggy Thompson. Across the road in the graveyard lie the bodies of Tam o' Shanter, Souter Johnnie, Hugh Roger (his teacher) and Burns' grandparents. Almost adjacent to the National Trust for Scotland's Souter Johnnie's Cottage and close to Culzean Castle.
