This Pub is Permanently Closed
The premises were purchased in 1866 by Robert McFarlane Roy who converted thenm into a beerhouse. He formerly owned the Alloa Brewery in Scotland and having moved south to Stafford also purchased the Stafford Brewery in South Walls. Whether he named the pub after the notorious Scottish outlaw Rob Roy Macgreggor or after himself is a matter of conjecture. He sold both the brewery and the pub in 1868 and moved to Lewisham. The building is currently (2022) the offices of JNV Care Recruitment. To the right hand side of the building is a door with a plaque Averne Place, this was a passageway leading to the pub accommodation and a row of five cottages.
