Located in the Forest of Dean and with panoramic views over the surrounding woodlands. Built in the early 1800s as a miners pub - there are mine shafts within a half-mile radius. Despite some renovation and extensions, it still retains a basic traditional atmosphere.

There are extensive facilities for children, including special menus and a play area, though watch out for the pool next to the car park. Family meals are always available. A patio area, seating 50, was created in 1989 to commemorate 50 years of service at the inn by the same family. The pub is a favourite with bikers, hikers, cavers and drinkers. The pub contains a well which was, until quite recently, used for drinking water.

Local brass bands play on Sundays in the summer with other musical events in the winter months.
