Old coaching inn on the Great North Road. Re-opened in July 2016 after a six month closure for refurbishment. One large, well furnished, 'L-shaped' room with a varied range of seating areas. Themed food evenings with breakfast available on Saturday (8 to 11-30). Front patio and extensive outside rear area with under 5s and under 11s play equipment. Function room for hire.

The Charter Market Quarter has many historical links. One of the only free-standing medieval civic clock towers, the site of the First Battle of St. Albans in 1455, during the Wars of the Roses. Allegedly the Boot Inn played host to soldiers fighting in the battle. There used to be 23 pubs around the Market area!
