Fine town centre pub with accommodation and serving good quality meals, including Sunday Lunch. Situated on market square opposite the steps where Charles Wesley used to preach. His brother John stayed at The Red Lion in 1742 after preaching from his Father's gravestone outside the church. Spacious, comfortable, elegant lounge with dining tables, soft furnishings, and oak beams suggesting an historic past. Real coal fire. Two real ales, Often Theakston Lightfoot with a changing guest, (or two guests). Car park nearby at the top of the street, by the church.
