Operator: Wetherspoon
13 East Barnet Road, New Barnet, EN4 8RR (View on Google Map)

A rarity for Wetherspoon's, this was not a conversion but had been a pub since the late 19th century. Ten ales are usually available with London brews often featuring. A massive refit, including a conservatory at the rear gives it an airy and bright feeling, and families are welcome until late evening. The car park has gone, replaced by a larger garden which is now segregated between smoking and non-smoking; the latter having the benefit of Astroturf.

The Charter Market Quarter

15 minutes 6 curated stops

The Charter Market Quarter has many historical links. One of the only free-standing medieval civic clock towers, the site of the First Battle of St. Albans in 1455, during the Wars of the Roses. Allegedly the Boot Inn played host to soldiers fighting in the battle. There used to be 23 pubs around the Market area!

St Peter’s Quarter

25 minutes 5 curated stops

The northern end of the Market is dominated by St. Peter’s church, one of the three churches originally built by the Saxon’s on the main pilgrim routes into St. Albans. Soak up the history and architecture of the area, as well as music history!

Medieval St. Albans East

15 minutes 6 curated stops

This area is packed with history and interesting pubs, some open, and some no longer with us.
