Located between Newark Castle and the Market Square. This Grade II listed building dates back to c.1452 and was licensed shortly after. It was restored by the Thurlby group, now Knead pubs in 2010 to magnificent effect. It comprises of several rooms and snugs on two levels, where the beamed, vaulted ceiling of the original Wealden House can be seen. Voted 2011 CAMRA Newark Pub of the Year, four handpumps, with an ever-changing range of ales. A selection of traditional pub food is served including a Sunday roast. Private rooms are available for functions and meetings. Acquired by the RedCat Pub Company in August 2021.

Historic Interest

Reopened March 17th 2010 after being closed for four years and renamed the Prince Rupert. A magnificent resoration by the Mike Thurlby team, this surviving example of a Wealdon House dates back to around 1452.

Restoration
