Traditional 17th century brick and flint country pub, located in the centre of the village, with an emphasis on restaurant quality dining.
The pub most recently reopened in November 2025 having closed in May 2025 while new tenants were being sought.
On entering the original pub entrance, there remains a bar area to the left, which is comfortably furnished with tables and chairs and with half-height wood-panelled walls. A wood-burning stove operates in winter months. When busy, the tables in the bar are set for diners. To the right of the entrance is the second original room, now in use as a dining room, with beams and a flagstone floor. Attached to the original pub is an adjoining barn, which has an area used as a relaxing lounge with comfortable leather chairs and a huge double-opening fireplace. This leads into the main restaurant, which is cosy and comfortable, with a subtle mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings.
The Ridgeway passes right by the pub and the Thames is less than 1/2 a mile away. The pub is thus very popular with walkers and cyclists, but also locals and visitors from further afield, attracted by its burgeoning reputation as a destination pub for dining. The food is all freshly-prepared, using local ingredients wherever possible. The menu changes frequently and can be described as modern seasonal British, restaurant quality, dining.
There is an attractive fenced and paved courtyard at the front of the pub, with tubs and planters, which is a great place to catch the sun on a summer's evening. There is also a large grassed, but rather plain, garden to the rear.
