A traditional English country pub dating from 1826 with one bar and a popular separate restaurant/pizzeria looking out to stunning views of the Hertfordshire countryside - the restaurant area impressively extended in 2016. Breakfasts are available from 8.30am. Note that the entrance to the garden is from the bar. Live music occasionally on Friday evenings.

The Charter Market Quarter has many historical links. One of the only free-standing medieval civic clock towers, the site of the First Battle of St. Albans in 1455, during the Wars of the Roses. Allegedly the Boot Inn played host to soldiers fighting in the battle. There used to be 23 pubs around the Market area!
