This much loved village pub re-opened under new management in May 2026.
The new publicans (Jenny & Craig) have announced a series of exciting plans. For now the pub is wet led with four real ales and a good range of other drinks and snacks.
The pub has announced plans to refurbish the kitchen and offer a traditional food service towards the end of the summer 2026.
Historic Interest
A pub from 1840 and formerly known as the Wheatsheaf. Owned by Fordhams of Ashwell in the early 20th century. Later owned by Whitbreads, then became a Freeehouse in 2010.
The name was changed to the March Hare in the mid 1980's under Whitbread's control. It closed in 2008, until bought and rescued from Admiral Taverns in February 2010.
After a refurbishment, it re-opened in August 2010 as a freehouse operated by the current owners Janice & John. 2020 saw a further refurbishment during lockdown. In April 2022 the March Hare installed a half barrel brewery and became the March Hare BrewPub, with real ales brewed and served on the premises.
John & Janice retired from brewing and serving in December 2024 and the pub was closed throughout 2025 while new tenants were found.
