Set on the edge of Dartmoor National Park and originally built as an Inn in the 13th Century, The Highwayman has claim to being the most unusual pub in Britain. In the same family for sixty years, it is something of an Aladdin's cave, full of eclectic artefacts and curios. The slate-floored front bar, with counter hewn from an oak tree, is complemented by a series of nooks and crannies that lead off, while there is also an equally atmospheric, separate eating area. Accommodation extends to five rooms. Well behaved dogs and children are welcome. Hours may change in line with the seasons.
