Opened in 1984 as the Pickled Skittle this modern community pub serves a large housing estate. It underwent a £500,000 refurbishment and is now part of the Sizzling Grill branded pubs offering a good value food. There are up to six cask ales which are usually from national brewers but can often include beers from smaller breweries from the M&B guest list and occasionally a local brewery. There is a discount on cask ales for CAMRA members who should present their current membership card when ordering.

The pub is popular with all ages and is busy at most times, especially when live sports events are shown on the many TV screens around the pub (including the outside drinking area). A quiz takes place every Monday evening and there is a poker night on Thursdays. The pub supports many national and local charities chosen by its customers.
