Once a Clutterbuck of Stanmore house which later became a Bluebeckers. Was an independent restaurant with separate bar area following a major refurbishment in 2011. Became the third White Brasserie pub to open in July 2014 rebranded as a Heartswood Inn 2023.

Historic Interest

Early C19, symmetrical, 2-storeys. Stuccoed with simple brick dentil eaves. Three nearly flush sash windows. Half hipped tiled roof, with rear outshot. Bracketed hood to central door. Single-storey addition to left, with stables.

The Charter Market Quarter has many historical links. One of the only free-standing medieval civic clock towers, the site of the First Battle of St. Albans in 1455, during the Wars of the Roses. Allegedly the Boot Inn played host to soldiers fighting in the battle. There used to be 23 pubs around the Market area!
