A traditional wooden beamed hostelry that occupies a very prominent position on the main street. The single main bar is decorated with numerous prints and paintings. It has no machines but does have background music and traditional pub games. Menu includes favourites like burgers, pizzas and other pub classics. Sports TV and regular live music on Saturday evenings.

It is also family friendly and welcomes children.

A Greene King tenancy, but with genuine guest beers.

Historic Interest

The building dates from the 16th century, but has been much altered since. In 1855 was listed as a Commercial Inn & posting house. In 1830 the "Wellington" coach to London (via Nayland & Colchester) departed the George every Tue, Thu & Sat. A carrier called John Baker also operated every Tue to Bury & every Thu to Colchester. A report in the Ipswich Journal** in Jan 1840 states that : Announcement of the death, lately, at Hadleigh, aged 26, of consumption Mr Tozer, landlord of the George Inn.
