A traditional boozer popular with locals guaranteed to give you a warm welcome. At the front is a large bar with pool room off it to the rear. The impressively large and smart dining room is in an extension to the left of the pub. Not a pretty pub to look at but one worthy of a visit. Major-General Sir Henry Havelock KCB (1795 – 1857) was a British general who is particularly associated with India and his recapture of Cawnpore during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. He was born locally at Ford Hall, Bishopwearmouth (now in Sunderland)
