Traditionally constructed former Toll House containing Cotswolds stone walls and with a pitched stone roof.
By winter this a cosy endearing pub and by summer it has a beer garden that soaks up the sun. It hosts a children's splay area and a pétanque piste.
The food at the pub is cooked to order, using local suppliers and seasonal produce. It ranges from pub classics to interesting and creative food. The drinks follow the same ethos with ales from local breweries such as Stroud and Uley.
Entering the pub, the room opens out into one long area with the bar in the middle. There is a real fire at each end. with the one nearest the door in regular use, and the other on the coldest nights.
Happy hour 5-6pm Wednesday to Friday.

Reopened December 2023 after being closed for almost a year during which it was refurbished.
Bisley History Society has researched the unusual name and has determined that it relates to a character called Foston and a tollgate made of ash. The building was originally a toll house. The story goes that Foston disliked paying tolls and instead caused the horse he was riding to jump over the gate and gallop off. The pub sign depicts this incident. There is no record indicating any repercussions.
