Roadside Tudor-style former coaching inn built in the 18th century alongside John Carr's bridge over the River Derwent. Popular with locals and visitors, it has a large lounge, back bar, restaurant and function room with an impressive high ceiling. Home-cooked meals are served daily together with a Sunday carvery. Thursday is music quiz night with jazz night the last Wednesday monthly. Outside is a spacious beer garden and smokers are catered for in an adjacent spacious covered and heated area. Dogs and children are welcome.
