Located near the historic Salts Mill and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire, this cosy pub was formerly a haberdashery (where radio D.J. John Peel's wife Sheila lived before they married), later a pet shop and then a beer and cider house, selling off-license, cask ales and 9 artisan ciders in 4 pint jugs. The police sign outside was from the former Leyburn police station and bought at auction. The premises have been extended into adjacent properties and, as a result, is a maze of rooms over two floors. It was refurbished and re-opened in mid-July 2021 under a change of ownership. This altered the usability of the building while retaining the traditional, historic feel. The main bar is located to the left of the entrance and a lounge, with evidence of the original gas lighting, is adjacent. Nine handpumps offer a mix of regular and guest cask ales. Twelve keg taps offer a range of craft beers, lagers and ciders. There are also two Guinness taps. A good range of foreign bottled beers is kept. Real fires add nicely to the welcome. An additional comfortable seating area is located upstairs.
