Halfway between railway station and town centre, this basic down-to-earth single-bar drinkers' local shows a renewed commitment to real ale (ignore the large Carling sign outside!).Quirky exterior with some original stained glass leads to the welcoming bar. Enter as a stranger, leave as a friend. The town of Machynlleth, surprisingly bustling given its small size, is a splendid touring centre with good transport links.
