The Cross Keys Inn dates back to the mid-1700s and is situated in the small hamlet of Whitechapel, on the border of the Forest of Bowland, an area of outstanding natural beauty. It was originally a farm called Lower Oakenhead; the pub was run from the farmhouse and was known locally as the 'Dorchester'.

The pub closed around 2004 but following extensive and sensitive restoration of the farmhouse and outbuildings it reopened on 24th May 2021 with the additional offering of B&B and holiday accommodation.

There is a wide offering of food from bar snacks to more substantial meals and Sunday roasts. Up to three (normally two) cask ales are available on handpump and local gins are also a feature. There is also a large function room suitable for weddings and other celebrations. Opening times may vary slightly at the manager’s discretion.
