Situated on the main road between Hatfield and Potters Bar, this is a pub restaurant that offers an extensive menu of seasonal produce in comfortable and stylish surroundings including real log fires in winter. Redecorated and refurbished in 2015 in a contemporary style and has some nice old furniture on display. Large garden with heated outside eating area on the patio which was upgraded in the summer of 2022. There a plans for live music in the garden during the 2025 summer months

The Charter Market Quarter has many historical links. One of the only free-standing medieval civic clock towers, the site of the First Battle of St. Albans in 1455, during the Wars of the Roses. Allegedly the Boot Inn played host to soldiers fighting in the battle. There used to be 23 pubs around the Market area!
