Wine Bar.

Closed in June 2016 as a pub following a proposed 100% rent increase. Re-opened in 2017 as a restaurant / wine bar by Chateaux Margaux heiress Alexandra Petit-Mentzelopoulos, the youngest daughter of Corinne Mentzelopoulos owner of the celebrated Left Bank estate since 1980. Now described as "a very swanky wine bar within a mock Tudor townhouse". No draught beer but now in conformance with CAMRAs definition of a pub. Many of our photos here show the venue in its old Tudor Rose days.

Historic Interest

This was a corner pub, rebuilt in 1936 with a mock Tudor frontage probably to the designs of John Quilter The leaded windows include lettering: 'WM YOUNGER & CO LTD ... EDINBURGH ... SCOTCH ALE ... MILD & PALE ALES'; there are also small painted panels showing Aberdeen and Edinburgh Castle. The drainage ironwork features thistles and the initials 'WY'. Inside there was a small bar with dark wood panelling and leaded windows, a style favoured by the former owners, Youngers. There is a first floor restaurant and function room. Originally licensed as Le Fevre’s Coffee House, it later became the Lincoln then the William Wallace. The Tudor Rose name dated from 2000. We acknowledge The Brewery History Society as a source for some of this historical material.
