Montgomery Square, Wath upon Dearne, S63 7RZ (View on Google Map)

Large pub with an impressive frontage set in a pedestrian square in the town centre, with excellent access to local bus services (across the square). It was built in 1810 and consecrated by the nearby church in 1912. It became a pub in the 1980s, and then a Wetherspoon's in 2000. Handy for exploring the RSPB Old Moor Wetlands Centre and for Manvers Commercial Park, it serves a wide variety of beers from both national and local brewers. The cider is no longer classed as real by CAMRA. The manager has installed a screen displaying current and coming soon beers.

Historic Interest

Built c1810 for William Carr, featuring Ashlar sandstone facade and coursed, squared sandstone elsewhere. Graduated Welsh slate roof. Deep plan with wing to rear left. Doric stone porch at front.
