A spacious and busy alehouse drawing a varied adult-only clientele, ranging from business people to football fans. The interior features an imposing horseshoe bar, bare floorboards, a splendid cornice and a collection of brewery mirrors. Old barrels act as tables for those who wish to stand up, or cannot find a seat. Multiple TVs show sport but the volume is usually kept low. The changing real ales, often from UK-wide independent breweries, come in a range of strengths and styles. Sparklers removed on request. Level access via one manual door which opens outwards. Accessible toilet. Light lunches are served Monday to Saturday from 12 to 2pm.
Restoration
In the base of a C19 curved Grade C-listed tenement converted to a pub in 1992. It is a characterful evocation of a traditional single room Edinburgh bar. The imposing horseshoe servery has an impressive gantry. There is an ornate ceiling cornice and a collection of brewery mirrors and framed prints. Bare floorboards and in some places barrels serve as tables.
