OCT 2025 - reopened with an impressive restoration of the horseshoe servery. There are two keg taps. Only open until 4pm Mon and Tues.

MAY 2025 - To reopen as a French style bistro. From their Facebook page it would appear they are maintaining/restoring original features. No planning permission found but until it opens it will not be clear if this still operates as per CAMRA's definition of a pub.

FEB 2023 - New "To Let" sign outside.

JUN 2022 - Still not reopened. Work going on inside.

NOV 2021 - Has been bought and advertising for tenants.

JUL 2021 - Has been closed for some time and is currently up for sale

MAY 2021 - Planning app 21/00747/FUL raised to convert to restaurant & takeaway but now withdrawn

SEP 2020 - Been closed for a while.

One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest

Listed status: C

Town centre pub built 1868, refitted c.1900, and still retaining its splendid island bar counter with canopy running all the way around. The counter retains old match strikers and water taps both are now no longer in use; the pot shelf is modern. The small island gantry could be over 30 years old, and there are remains of two old fireplaces in this large panelled room. The public bar has been opened-up to the area at rear right.
