The original pub and brewery were demolished in 1899 and this superb Victorian building erected to a design by Oxford Town Hall architect H. T. Hare. Renamed as The Big Society in Spring 2013 (the Cowley Road elm trees had all long gone). Now mainly a cocktail and burger bar with games. They serve 'gourmet street food', including the classic cheese burger. Has some beer in keg, cans, and bottles. A cinema was built next door on the site of the brewery in 1910 by Frank Stuart who owned the pub. Refurbished March 2025.

Listed Grade II as is cinema next door.
