Beehive Inn, Soyland

Although only 1000 metres from the centre of Ripponden, getting to this pub on foot requires a 100 metre climb up Royd Lane. But the struggle is entirely worthwhile, both for the fine views and the pub itself. Standing at the junction of Hob Lane and Royd Lane, this solid building was originally constructed in around 1830 and was owned in turned by the Victoria Brewery, the Halifax Brewing Company and the Windmill Hill Brewery. Outside there's a verse about 'ln this hive', which relates to the pub's name. Once a Ramsden's beer and wine house, it has now been re-invented as a popular eating place, complete with a large and comfortable extension to the rear, pleasantly divided up into cosy alcoves with tables and traditional decor. The extensive regular menu is augmented by a 'specials' board. And in the summer months you can enjoy the patio and garden, perhaps along with one of the many wines that are available.
