Built around 1860, the Abbey is an imposing building in its own grounds with parking and a garden. Although all one bar, the interior is divided into several areas, most of which have TV screens. Until early 2025, it was well known for its range of real ales and ciders which were served through ten handpumps. Following closure and refurbishment, it reopened June under the tutelage of an outfit called Vik's Pubs who have outlets throughout the midlands and whose pubs specialise in Indian food, although a full menu of other dishes is also available.

There are now only five handpumps, but guest beers are still served.

Quizzes are held on Wednesday nights, and live music may take place in the future.

Historic Interest

Opened as a pub in September 1938, this former private Italian style residence was owned by William Butler & Co, later becoming Mitchells & Butlers following a merger. Historians may be interested to view the blue plaque on the house a few doors away (69 Monkmoor Road) which commemorates the WW1 poet Wilfred Owen. His family were living there at the time of his death in 1918.
