Opened as a micropub called the Bastion Alehouse in 2019, it closed in May 2022, then reopened as "The 56" in Septemeber 2022 and was latterly more a restaurant than pub.

A small wine bar situated at the end of the pedestrian precinct, serving a single cask ale from Stonehouse Brewery, wines and gins, accompanied by a selection of sharing boards.
