Unit 25, Merretts Mill Industrial Estate, Nailsworth, GL5 5EX (View on Google Map)

Brewery Tap Room.

By road, Fresh Standard is at Unit 25, at the rear of the buildings facing away from the A46, giving the taproom relatively little road noise. It is adjacent to the cycle track. There is no parking at the unit, and visitors are asked to walk, cycle or use the frequent bus services where possible. If you have to drive, please park in the layby on the A46 towards Stroud.

The brewery taproom is approximately a 60-minute walk from Stroud via the cycle track, making for a pleasant way to work up an appetite for a beer.

On arrival, there may be two entrances. The left most roller-shutter door, when open, leads into the taproom/bar, while the right most roller-shutter and adjacent door leads into the brewery, where additional seating is available. In fine weather, further seating is provided outside opposite the brewery, close to the bank, which is a pleasant sun trap.

In colder or wet weather, the brewery entrance may be the only one open, but there is internal access through to the taproom. During winter, a wood burner adds to the cosy atmosphere.

The taproom has a green epoxy floor and colourful wall art, with several cask and keg beers available. A range of other drinks is also available, including lager, real cider and gin, together with a selection of snacks.

Food is typically available on Friday and Saturday evenings from visiting food vendors, while a Sunday roast is offered approximately once a month.

Historic Interest

In March 2022 The Fresh Standard Brew Co took the plunge and moved from Cuckoo brewing at Artisan Ales in Minchinhampton to acquire Unit 25 Merretts Mill. They opened the tap room immediately to capitalise on the unseasonably warm spring weather and passing trade from the Stroud to Nailsworth cycle track.

Merrett's Mill, part of the historic industrial landscape of the Nailsworth valley. The former mill complex retains two Grade II-listed elements, including an impressive early-17th-century porch and remains of the former mill house, and an early-19th-century former mill building. The site was associated with the area's woollen and later flock-manufacturing industries
