This is a traditional and unpretentious street-corner pub near to Watford Junction station and convenient for Clarendon Road and the town centre. Now opening normally after a period of irregular opening pre-lockdown. The pub is unusual in that it retains a small snug, although what is now the lounge was originally two smaller bars with a corridor in between.

The Charter Market Quarter has many historical links. One of the only free-standing medieval civic clock towers, the site of the First Battle of St. Albans in 1455, during the Wars of the Roses. Allegedly the Boot Inn played host to soldiers fighting in the battle. There used to be 23 pubs around the Market area!
