Large, multi floored, former Wetherspoon not far from Station. Very well converted listed building. Glass roofed area in centre of pub. Upper floor opening times may vary. Just reopened under new ownership Beers and food may vary. Reopened 23.11.18 after major refurbishment. Main bar to the left has four handpumps; beer range subject to review. Towards the rear the bar has two handpumps replicating beers from the main bar, and the area is now set aside for dining. Pool room and snug remain.

Conversion

Built in 1874 in French Renaissance style as the Union Club and now a large, multi-floored, multi-roomed pub in a Grade II-listed building. The centre of the pub is crowned by a huge glass dome and there is a grand stone staircase,. After recent renovation old rooms remain, including a snug. There are also tall stained-glass windows, ornate plasterwork and fireplaces to be enjoyed.
