Traditional, family-friendly village pub situated on the old Roman Watling Street. The "O.D.", as it is known by locals, features a split level bar with beams, brass and a listed fireplace. Adorning the walls are a range of sporting photographs. Meals are served daily with food prepared from locally sourced produce. Poker is played Tuesday evenings. There is a sizeable garden with children's play equipment and a pool table in the newly-built annex.
Historic Interest
First mentioned in documents of 1689 as White Horse Farm, it is believed that a public house has operated on this site since 1787. Having gone through many owners over the course of its long history, by the early 1990s the White Horse (as it was known at the time) had ended up part of the Whitbread empire. When a change in the law forced the UK's big brewers to dispose of many pubs, this one was purchased by its then tenants. The pub name was changed to the Overdraught as a humorous reference to the money they had to borrow to acquire it. Since then, the pub has gone on to change hands several more times but the "new" name has been retained.
This Pub serves 1 changing beer and 1 regular beer.

The Charter Market Quarter has many historical links. One of the only free-standing medieval civic clock towers, the site of the First Battle of St. Albans in 1455, during the Wars of the Roses. Allegedly the Boot Inn played host to soldiers fighting in the battle. There used to be 23 pubs around the Market area!
The northern end of the Market is dominated by St. Peter’s church, one of the three churches originally built by the Saxon’s on the main pilgrim routes into St. Albans. Soak up the history and architecture of the area, as well as music history!
This area is packed with history and interesting pubs, some open, and some no longer with us.
