Situated in a pretty village with Roman villa and part-Norman church, this picturesque, thatched building rose in the 16th century as three cottages, and served as a bakery before becoming a pub in the 1890s. Saved from closure in the 1990s by a local consortium, but later sold to a private owner, it still bears the name of Strong's (brewery, long closed) of Romsey. The cosy restaurant / lounge and flagstone-floored bar have handsome fireplaces, and seating includes settles. Food (not Sunday evening) includes local beef, pork and game, and home-made puddings; booking is advisable.

Originally 17th century, rebuilt 18th century and extended in the 19th. Grade II listed. Historic England list entry 1167669
