After a number of tenants over the years, the pub was purchased by a group of local friends and the pub had a transformation, reopening as a freehold in 2025 when cask ale was reintroduced. With two large downstairs rooms, the bar and lounge, a local artist has decorated some of the internal corridors with murals. The lounge has a log burner and black and white photographs showing local heritage. A decked outside area is planned, along with future upstairs visitor accommodation.

Historic Interest

An early tenant of The Fountain was Michael McNally, born in Ireland in 1829, who came over to England and successfully ran the pub for over 30 years until a disastrous fire in 1892 when the building burnt down. The Fountain was rebuilt including a tap-room, bar, front and back parlours, cellar and a three-stalled stable with coach-house.
