A genuine free house just outside the town (city!) centre. A wide range of ales are on offer, including at least one dark, dispensed via a mixture of handpump and gravity, along with a range of ciders. Darts and TV sports are available, along with regular quiz and folk nights. The pub has won many CAMRA awards under the friendly landlady. There is a large walled garden to the rear which was a saviour during the pandemic.
