Dark Horse, Mumbles

Small independent boutique Bar and Kitchen Restaurant specialising in Indian cuisine and depending on the time of day, serving coffee, drinks, brunches, small plates and full meals. It is decorated in a modern industrial style, with artistically painted brick and tiled walls. There is an L-shaped tiled bar on the right hand side serving five keg beers (no Cask Ale!) and walk-in customers just wanting a drink are also welcome. On the outside, high on one side of the building is an impressive mural depicting the Dark Horse.

History:- Believed to date back to the 1790's, this pub was originally named the Nag's Head and had several small and dark rooms. Later on it was rebuilt and a third story added. A regular stopping off point for those partaking in the famous "Mumbles Mile" pub challenge, in 1972 the name was changed to the Oystercatcher, but was renamed back to the Nag's Head in 1995. By which point it had been reconfigured into a single larger room. In 2012 it changed use to become a Costa Coffee venue, closing in approx 2020. In late 2020, it was redecorated and converted into the Dark Horse Bar and Kitchen. This original version of the Bar & Kitchen suddenly closed on Sunday 10th September 2023, as whilst the business was "profitable", the then owners decided to focus on another of their venues, the Perch on Wind Street, Swansea. It reopened under new ownership, still using the Dark Horse name on 3rd June 2024, with the food offering changed to the Indian speciality restaurant.
