Historic pub in an attractive village close to the main A61 between Harrogate and Ripon, it was refurbished in 2015 and now has longer opening hours and also serves food. The pub and the adjacent caravan site have been owned by the same family since 1947. The main bar is stone-flagged with tables and chairs for drinking or dining, there is a games room to the right with pool table, darts board and a gaming machine, a third room, the Music Room, at the back with separate bar, and there is a restaurant area at the very back of the pub. Two handpumps in the main bar serve real ales and a third handpump in the Music Room may occasionally serve a third beer at weekends.

Historic Interest

A public house since 1850, part of the building was earlier a butchers and blacksmiths. Four adjoining cottages, along with their wash house and a brewhouse, are also now incorporated into the pub. The buildings date to the 15th century or maybe even earlier.
