  • Outstanding pub restoration

Now owned by local brewer Goacher's this early 12th-century building has been restored in keeping with its Grade II status following a 10-year period of closure. Beware the low doorway and ceiling as well as the step down into pub. A large inglenook fireplace provides a warm welcome in winter and a small seating area on a mezzanine floor makes a good addition to the small floor area. Cask ale is dispensed from two handpumps on the bar counter and two or three chilled casks on gravity dispense on the bar back shelf or cooled cellar. Snacks, crisps, boxed cider and wine and spirits are available. An occasional quiz and other events are held.

Restoration

After lying empty for ten years, refurbishment has restored this C12 building as a pub, in keeping with its Grade II-listed status. It has a stunning, no-nonsense interior with exposed beams, low ceilings, whitewashed walls and a small seating area on a mezzanine gallery, which is handy given it is one of Kent's smallest pubs. A large inglenook fireplace provides warmth and there is none of the usual frippery to distract from enjoying a pint and conversation.
