  • Outstanding pub conversion

Reputedly the third-oldest building in the town, it dates from around 1430 and was originally a farmhouse within the estate of the Archbishop’s palace. It has large timber beams, narrow staircases and sloping floors. Curious nooks and crannies may be found on the two levels. The toilets are at the end of the largest room upstairs. There is a heated and covered courtyard area accessed by a door to the left of the entrance. A room behind the bar is often a quiet area and is supplemented by two further rooms upstairs. Two of the rooms are available, by arrangement, for meetings. The bar has four handpumps with three normally in use dispensing ales that are mainly from Kent microbreweries. Cider is stocked alongside many bottled beers, including several foreign ones. Pizza & a pint are priced at £10 Friday & Saturday evenings. The bus station is only a short walk away.

Conversion
