A beautiful Cotswolds pub situated at the southern end of the Sapperton Tunnel on the charmingly derelict Thames and Severn canal. Originally built in the 1780's for the tunnel diggers and the "leggers".

Reopened in June 2026 after more than five years following extensive renovation and redecoration. This has not compromised its historical roots and remains a comfortable and cosy inn.

Entrance is now gained through the reinstated door on the right leading to the "locals" bar where four handpumps are found serving two permanent and two changing ales from local breweries. There is a larger bar area to the left, a small snug and a restaurant which opens on to a courtyard and then to the large garden. There are plenty of outside seating options where the stunning views can be admired. There is a Garden Kitchen which operates Saturday and Sunday noon to 6 and 7 respectively in addition to the a la carte service in the pub.

The car park is found at the end of the long drive off the Coates to Tarlton road but the pub is also accessed by foot from various directions and it sits on the Wysis and Monarch Way footpaths.

Close to the historic market town of Cirencester, the source of the River Thames and other Cotswolds attractions.

It is the sister pub to the Bell at Sapperton.
