There has been a public house on the site since 1764 and before that a malthouse. Called the Anchor until 1977 it then became the Westgate, then in 1997 O.X. ONE, then Que Pasa until 2011 when it became the Bell & Compass. Once a Morrell's pub, now Marston's, and reincarnated most recently in October 2015 aimed at a younger crowd with numerous food and drink deals. This self-proclaimed 'more than just your typical British pub' has stopped serving cask ale.
