This is a hotel, which means that the bar is only open to residents.
Built in 1878, the building was originally the local workhouse. The first floor was a maternity ward, the second floor accommodated single women and there was a separate building at the rear for vagrants. In 1935 it became a school for the deaf, then a factory producing car accessories. It was closed for some years then in 1980 converted into holiday apartments. It became a hotel in 1989. There is a restaurant and conference facilities and a bar.
