This Pub is Permanently Closed

Suburban local, uniquely named after a British siege which took place during the Indian Mutiny. Punch Taverns sold the pub to Coop and after a short stay of execution the pub finally ceased trading in May 2014, with Coop opening their store later that year.

Historic Interest

Named after the siege of the city by Rebels of the East India Company. 1857 the British were under siege and outnumbered by 10 to 1 awaiting a relief column. Despite the rebels reducing the officers mess to rubble with at least 400 cannon balls and trying to tunnel underground and mine the defences, a soldier called Kavanagh disguised himself as a local and made his way out to direct the relief army in and save his fellow countrymen and other Europeans. The officer in charge of the relief column was Sir Colin Campbell and there is a pub called the Sir Colin Campbell in London.
