An historic half-timbered building dating from about 1536, it has been significantly altered and restored since. It is reputed that both Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots visited on their journeys through Staffordshire (but not at the same time). The pub is on a main traffic route close to the village centre. At ground level there are separate bar & lounge with a central island servery. The pub was fully refurbished in 2017. The number of beers available may vary.

Historic Interest

In 1839 the pub was offered for sale and was described at that time as “consisting of a tap room, bar, large parlour, entrance gateway, brewhouse, cellar, 5 bedrooms, 3 attics, and storeroom, large and extensive stabling for 40 horses … gig house, large garden and pump … now in the occupation of John Seaville, as tenant from year to year. The brewhouse shows that this pub brewed its own beer at one time. John Seaville may have moved to the Star in the late 1840s.
